Description
Offered here is a66 gram
fusion crusted
complete stone
of the
Thuathe
H-4/5
chondrite meteorite fall that occurred on July 21, 2002. This
observed fall
showed reports stating that strewn fields were confined to three distinct areas as the meteor exploded dispersing its fragments over villages and land masses.
Recovered stones angular in shape
were
noted to have a dark fusion crust
, most likely due to inflight fragmentation. Of note, the darker phases on the meteorite's surface is due to the tumbling effect during entering the atmosphere. Cut pieces show dense packed chondrules with large proportion of metal within the interior and the
stone's surface shows very little weathering
.
This piece
measures approximately
50mm x 33mm x 26mm
and is mentioned in the "METEORITICAL BULLETIN" #87 (2003).
