That’s quite a mouthful... but then it’s also quite a set too. The King & Country ‘105’ comes with four (4) USMC Gunners to serve and operate the gun. The 105mm M10A1 Howitzer was an artillery piece that began as the standard U.S. field howitzer of WWII. It also saw extensive battlefield service in Korea and Vietnam with both the U.S. Army and the USMC, as well as with other Allied nations armies. This USMC version has four (4) Marines serving the gun and will also have future extra ‘add-on’ sets to complete the gun in action.

    HISTORICAL NOTE
    :
FIELD ARTILLERY & FIRING POSITIONS DURING THE VIETNAM WAR
The wide variances in the types of field artillery weapons sent to Vietnam gave senior artillery commanders great flexibility in tailoring fire support to satisfy best the needs of the situation.
The 105mm towed howitzer most often served in the direct support role. Its light weight, dependability, and high rate of fire made it the ideal weapon for moving with light infantry forces and responding quickly with high volumes of close-in fire. Units were initially equipped with the MIOIAI howitzer, virtually the same 105mm. howitzer that had been used to support U.S. forces since World 'Var II. In 1966 a new 105mm. towed howitzer, the MI02, was received in Vietnam. Due to the complex and varied terrain encountered in Vietnam, it was necessary to establish fire support bases, which enabled gun commanders to fire rounds based on orders received from the fire control officer. To help ensure the safety of the gun positions, howitzers and their crew, these fire bases and individual gun emplacements were protected with sandbags set up in particular positions to maximize firing ability without restricting the necessity to relocate the gun if necessary.

Note: Although we have never been to either South or North Vietnam, nor any of the battle sites of the Vietnam War, we have visited the stunning U.S.M.C. National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, VA which is near the Marine Corps base in Quantico, VA and of course the stunning Vietnam Wall in Washington D.C. In addition, we have also toured All Five of the Landing Beaches along the Cotentin P
    eninsula
and many of the historical locations, and museums in an around Normandy. We have also visited the Bastogne area, including the Baugnez '44 Museum, the site of the Malmedy Massacre, the still existing foxholes of the 502nd and 506th P.I.R. and the pastoral surrounding area in Belgium on several occasions. We have found both the French and the Belgian people, especially in the towns in Normandy and area near Bastogne, to be very friendly and still grateful to the Allies, especially the American forces, for their liberation… despite the huge loss of life and property to the French and Belgian civilians. In addition, should you want to visit the area in and around Normandy or Bastogne, we would be willing to share our experiences or trip itinerary with you, which may help to make your travel through the area easier and perhaps make the historical experience more valuable.
