Description
Big Kahuna is celebrating the approval (by the Meteoritical Society Nomenclature Committee) of the classification of my sixth CM carbonaceous chondrite meteorite. This meteorite features a greenish black matrix (presence of phyllosilicates) of soft texture, not unlike my NWA 7131.Item for auction is a 0.44g lot of several slices of my CM carbonaceous chondrite, NWA 10126.
A small lot of 6 desert varnished stones were purchased by Gary Fujihara in December 2013 from a Moroccan dealer. Two of the largest stones were cut by Montana Meteorite Laboratory by wire saw. Dr Tony Irving reports that the meteorites is comprised of very small, well-formed chondrules together with angular mineral fragments and amoeboid, very fine grained CAI set in a finer grained matrix (deep reddish brown in thin section) containing pyrrhotite and cronstedtite-tochilinite.
Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa0.4-40.6, Cr2O3 in ferroan examples 0.08-0.43 wt.%, N = 7), orthopyroxene (Fs1.6-7.5Wo0.9-2.2, N =2), subcalcic augite (Fs39.2Wo31.3), diopside (Fs1.0Wo42.1). Oxygen isotopic composition (J. Gattacceca, C. Sonzogni, CEREGE) from analysis of one 1.5 mg aliquot of a powdered 20 mg bulk sample is δ17O=1.73‰, δ18O=7.78‰ , Δ17O=-2.33‰ (linearized, slope 0.5247, analytical uncertainties 0.08‰, 0.12‰, 0.03‰ respectively).
This is an exceptional specimen that would make a perfect addition to your collection, and comes in a quality labeled display box, along with a Big Kahuna Meteorites Certificate of Authenticity. Scale cube in photo is 1cm on each side, and not included in sale. Big Kahuna combines shipping, and addresses must be in the English language, to facilitate customs input at US Postal Service.
