Description

This is a part slice of a heavily shocked, L4, shock-blackened chondrite with great colors and distinctive lithologies. Shock melting/darkening are the result of 2 asteroids colliding in space with an impact so cataclysmic, it generates heat sufficient to instantly melt the colliding rocks, and form rivers of molten rock and iron within the newly joined asteroids. In this case, some of the original chondrite survived the heating and can be seen in the light colored center with heat blackened exterior.
